The Fire Next Time (Prints) - James Baldwin : acrylic based, newspaper, and graphite.
The Fire Next Time is an art piece apart of the “What’s real?” collection that was inspired by Keshad Adeniyi's song Baldwin Ave. The primary medium used for this work was Acrylic paint. It also utilizes print mediums such as newspapers as a way to historize the subject’s intellectual current. The newspaper segment placed on the subject’s face is a clipping from an article written about a James Baldwin speech titled Baldwin Challenges White Unawareness. Additionally, while all of the elements considered should be left to the viewer’s interpretation, the artist wants to highlight the words transcribed on the left cheek of the subject’s face -This excerpt was pulled from James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time. It speaks directly to both black perseverance and the historical relationship black people have had with strength.
