Pedagogy of Hope is an 24 x 24 mixed media art piece inspired by the literary contributions of Bell Hooks. The primary medium used for this work was Acrylic paint. It also utilizes the print medium “newspaper” as a way to historize the subject’s intellectual current, contributions to feminist theory and application, and Liberation for the oppressed. The newspaper segment placed on the subject face titled Black and female - African American writer Bell Hooks pushes for Civil Rights on two fronts: as a minority and as a minority woman by Jacqueline Trescott. This segment tracks Hooks intellectual contributions to a number of sociopolitical issues black people were facing during her tenure as a writer, activist, and advocate. Additionally, while all of the elements considered should be left to the viewer’s interpretation, the artist wants to highlight the words transcribed on the right cheek of the subject’s face -This excerpt was pulled from Bell Hooks book titled the Pedagogy of Hope . It speaks directly to the urgency of confronting power and domination as a way to struggle for liberation and free will.
