The Making of a Comrade is a visual and sonic inquiry into how political subjects are formed long before political language is learned. Drawing from personal memories of everyday environments—homes, classrooms, transit systems, and sites of consumption—the series examines how bodies absorb discipline, expectation, and orientation through repeated exposure to social systems. Working across painting and audio, Keshad Adeniyi treats these spaces as infrastructures of formation rather than neutral settings. Collaged newspaper fragments drawn from historical archives engage the broader continuum of the Black experience across Western and diasporic contexts. Together, image and sound explore how political consciousness emerges not from singular moments of awakening, but from accumulated conditions of proximity.
